STAY AT BOUTIQUE HOTEL DE WITTE DAME?
AN OUTSTANDING BOUTIQUE HOTEL
A stay at De Witte Dame offers everything you could wish for. The beautifully renovated station building is characterised by peace, luxury and comfort, and right outside there is lots to do and see nearby.
De Witte Dame has ten uniquely decorated, spacious rooms, all with a kitchenette, bathroom and toilet. At the moment, we are working hard on the construction of detached, luxurious small dyke cottages which we will start using in 2017 as ‘detached villa rooms’.
The hotel is easy to reach by car, train and even by boat. The Witte Dame is centrally situated, so it’s a great base for exploring the surrounding area, the peaceful nature of Botshol, the River Gein and the Vinkeveen Lakes. Or you could visit bustling Amsterdam (you can get there in 15 minutes by car or train).
The Witte Dame also has a practical and tastefully decorated room which can accommodate groups of up to 20 people, an ideal venue near Amsterdam for meetings, brainstorming sessions or training courses. On these occasions we would also be very happy to serve lunch or dinner from our kitchen.
THEN AND NOW
On 18 December 1843, when the railway line from Amsterdam to Utrecht was completed, the Abcoude railway station was first opened. In the original timetable, only 2 trains a day, in each direction stopped at Abcoude. The Abcoude station, therefore, was only provided with a rather meagre shelter. In 1871, however, at the urging of the Supervisory Board of the National Railway Service, a complete station building was opened. The station itself operated from the ground floor and upstairs three worker’s houses were created for the station chief, the station guard and the guard for the bridge. The station also had a buffet for a short while, but it was closed because of the disappointing volume of business it had. In 1977 the railway line was re-sited and a new station Abcoude was built and the old station building no longer had a function.
After years of decay, in 2015, this building was given a new future when Han van Blokland (B&B Villa Oldenhoff) and Arthur van Gils bought it and – with tons of inspiration and energy – transformed the former station into a gorgeous boutique hotel. Each room is lovingly decorated, each piece of furniture, each lamp, every detail has been carefully chosen. No less than 160,000 shelves were used in the creation of the beautiful wooden flooring which is laid throughout. The tastefully decorated restaurant on the ground floor has an inviting, luxurious atmosphere and is served by an excellent kitchen. The restaurant is not only open to hotel guests or people attending meetings, everyone is welcome to drop in for a delicious breakfast or tasty lunch, or a coffee, tea or drink. In fine weather you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the sun and the lovely views. This beautiful building in a wonderful rural area and yet next to the heart of the village of Abcoude, is only a ten-minute walk from the new Abcoude railway station.
THINGS TO DO AT DE WITTE DAME
In addition to the 10 beautiful rooms, there is also a large meeting room for groups of up to 20 people and a tastefully decorated restaurant, which is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8.00 to 20.00 hours.
